Congratulations to Sarah Crosby whose YES company, CS Productions, won the prestigious Northland YES Company of the Year Award.
CS Productions’ first DVD was called Captain Purple’s Adventures in the Kitchen and shows children how to make four different healthy food recipes. Sarah has plans to produce another three videos; Captain Purple’s Adventures – Up Off the Couch (focusing on physical education), Captain Purple’s Adventures – Arty Farty (art lessons) and Captain Purple’s Adventures – Mini Einstein (science).
Sarah and Captain Purple will now travel to Wellington for the National YES Awards in November, where CS Productions will compete against other Regional Winners for the national title.
The Young Enterprise Awards are the culmination of the year-long experiential business education programme, where year 11 through 13 students form start-up companies, become directors and follow their own business plans to develop products/services which they market and sell.
Sarah is giving $2 from every sale to CanTeen and you can buy Captain Purple’s Adventures in the Kitchen right here on sella.

Adrian McKeown increased his www.trademe.co.nz sales a couple of hundred dollars a week in just 10 minutes by automatically listing his TradeMe auctions on sella. Best of all, with no listing or success fees, the money went straight into his back pocket.
“My message to all Auctionitis users is that if you haven’t got round to listing on Sella yet, you are missing out. If you are selling on TradeMe you may as well try Sella as well. You’ve got nothing to lose. You’ll be making more on each sale with no success fees.”
Read his guest post, Why you should be listing on Sella as well as TradeMe, over on the Auctionitis blog.

The Scary Washing Machine continues to haunt Mike Whittaker:
For those of you who followed the ‘Scary Washing Machine‘ online auction earlier in the year, you may know that as well as making over $7500 for the 5 children’s charities, a small portion of the ongoing income after the auctions finished and separate to the auctions went towards paying for our honeymoon which we could not afford after we got married.
This was the honeymoon, in beautiful Samoa and we got to see the power of the REAL Scary Washing Machine up close and I can tell you now it’s much more scary than interplanetary portals and dinosaurs!
Believe it or not this was the honeymoon that some post-auction Scary Washing Machine proceeds helped to pay for! I might have sold that evil machine but he’s still trying to get me!!
My wife and I both survived by the seat of our pants but many other people were not as fortunate and many of them lost their lives and loved ones to the sea.
The Taufua family from Lalumanu have over 20 extended family members either dead or unaccounted for and we want to help them out by raising money to help them get back on their feet and get through this horrible tragedy.
They have virtually nothing left, the whole of the Lalumanu beach community is destroyed and turned to rubble and I was there while the family members retrieved their loved one’s bodies from the piles of rubble that were once their homes.
Read the incredible full story at www.scarywashingmachine.com and bid on all that’s left from Mike’s honeymoon, a camera case rescued from the rubble of the tsunami aftermath.
As well as helping auction a souvenir from the REAL Scary Washing Machine, sella is also supporting the Oxfam Samoa Tsunami Appeal and the NZ Red Cross Samoa Tsunami Relief Fund on Givealittle.

Wondering what to do with the extra daylight hours?
Maybe the kids want extra pocket money during the school holidays?
Whatever the reason, spring is a great time to clean your house from top to bottom and get rid of things you no longer need or use. Here are 5 tips for running a successful spring auction on sella.
- Pictures speak a thousand words and you can have up to 10 photos on sella for free. Make sure they are a good size and decent quality.
- Write accurate titles and descriptions using keywords that will help people find your auction using sella search.
- Set your auction to close in the evening, sella is busiest between 8 and 10pm Monday to Thursday.
- Figure out shipping costs in advance and think about allowing pickups as well.
- Make your auction $1 reserve, people love a bargain and will often bid higher than if you fix a reserve price.
With no fees for listing, selling or extra features it’s a lot cheaper to trade on sella than other sites.
List an item now.
